The event took place on 25th of October 2021 at 11:00 CEST with the participation of around 50 participants, 5 of which is the speakers from KITT4SME. The presenters have given valuable information about the project, the KITT4SME Platform, the open calls and the RAMP marketplace. The project provides a funding of up to 100.000 EUR to the AI developers, which has a mature AI solution for the SMEs in manufacturing sector. The open calls will be accepting applications until the 15th of December 2021.

A platform to deliver AI kits for SMEs

Andrea Bettoni, the project coordinator from SUPSI, has outlined that the main objective of the project is to deliver an online platform which offers affordable and customizable AI kits for the use of SMEs in the manufacturing sector.

In his presentation, Bettoni provided information about the phases in the artificial intelligence pipeline and added: “Packaging, validating and deploying the model may not be the favourite stages for the developers and data scientists. We will be giving the AI solution providers all the instructions on managing their module to be interoperable with the other solutions and all the specifications for connecting their solution to the platform”.

How AI developers can work with KITT4SME? The full technical details

Andrea Falconi from MARTEL Innovate, working as the platform manager in the project, has presented the technical details about the KITT4SME platform and the principles on the integration process.

Falconi has also stated on how KITT4SME could be of help to the AI solution providers on reaching their markets: “Even if you have an AI solution at hand, there are still a lot of work ahead of you: securing the communication among services, deploying the pipeline to production and managing the production environment, not to mention managing the customers. One option is to let someone there to do that for you – which KITT4SME and RAMP can be of some assistance”. Falconi also outlined that KITT4SME uses FIWARE platform which is open-source platform that comes with building blocks to collect data from the shop floor and to create a digital representation of it.

Applying to the open calls as an AI developer

Themis Kolyvas from European Dynamics, who works as the open calls manager in the project, has presented the open calls of KITT4SME. Kolyvas emphasized the objective of the open calls as follows: “we want to increase the number of AI solutions offered by the KITT4SME platform to the manufacturing community. That’s why we are providing up to 100.000 EUR to the AI solution providers in the open calls”.

Kolyvas continued by informing the participants about the important dates and useful tools to be used during the proposal preparation: “We are expecting your proposals describing your AI solution until 15th December 2021. Before the full application, you can also use the Abstract Submission System to briefly describe your solution to us and receive a short feedback about how much does your solution overlaps with the open call’s expectations”.

Robotics and Automation Marketplace

Ali Muhammad from European Dynamics, working in the project as the RAMP Manager, has clarified what RAMP is and how it works with KITT4SME.

In his presentation, Muhammad described RAMP as an online marketplace very much similar to the online marketplaces on the internet. “Amazon, for example”, he stated, “is a business to consumer marketplace, which you can go an buy the things that you are looking for. But RAMP is a business to business marketplace and it is focused on manufacturing SMEs, which they can buy the solutions for their manufacturing challenges online.”
